Program Assistant
Program Description:
Success Through Adults Reaching Students, STARS, is a nonprofit mentoring organization serving Freeborn County and the eastern portion of Faribault County by matching adult mentors with at-risk youth. STARS provides training, support and resources to assist in developing the mentor/mentee relationship
This position is flexible with approximately 20 hours per week. Some weekends and weeknights are required
Job Summary:
The program assistant will be responsible for developing effective programs, overseeing activities and details, and measuring overall success. Their duties will consist of managing various administrative tasks and ensuring that the program meets goals
Outreach & Recruitment:
● Recruits, screens and trains volunteer mentors
● Build relationships with area organizations
● Create, present and distribute recruitment materials
● Represents STARS Mentoring by hosting booths at area events and presenting to local service clubs and other interested organizations
Mentor/Mentee Management:
● Processes youth referrals and confers with Human Resources and school personnel regarding their referrals
● Works with parents/guardians to find out the needs of their child
● Create, supervise and support mentoring relationships
● Provide group activities for mentors and mentees
● Create question rubrics for mentors/mentees about decision-making and conflict resolution
Program Evaluation:
● Gather and document data about program participation and maintain records and conduct annual evaluation
Marketing:
● Update and manage STARS Facebook and website
● Assist with planning and implementation of public awareness campaigns
Qualifications and Requirements:
● Bachelor's degree with experience in recruitment, training, volunteer management, and social services. Experience in lieu of education is considered
● Working knowledge of MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Google Drive
● Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, attention to detail, and multi-tasking skills
● Experience in community engagement including professional networking and working with culturally diverse populations. Additional consideration is given to Bilingual (English/Spanish) applicants
● Self-starter, with excellent follow-up and organizational skills. Possess public speaking and presentation skills
● Maintain a clean driving record, active driver’s license, registration and vehicle insurance
Mental Demands:
Duties require planning, organizing, and performing various duties applying a wide range of procedures and rules. Duties require attention to detail, high degree of accuracy, reliability, timeliness, alertness, and use of judgment. Also requires writing ability, creativity, and concentration. Access to and use of confidential data where discretion/sensitivity is of utmost importance. Mature judgment and confidence
Physical Demands:
Frequently required to walk, sit, talk, and hear. Occasionally required to stand, reach, stoop, and handle and/or lift up to 50 pounds. Must be able to check reports for completion and accuracy and to retrieve and transmit information. Use of general office environment equipment
